Ireland’s best and brightest from the world of digital media were celebrated at the 2014 Samsung Digital Media Awards on Friday night. Today FM broadcaster Anton Savage hosted the event, which saw The Gathering Ireland campaign scoop the Grand Prix Award (sponsored by Samsung). Quotefish collected the award for Best Startup,  ICAN won best agency (sponsored by Kantar Media), as well as best retail campaign for the Brown Thomas Sunglasses campaign and best integrated digital campaign (sponsored by Ad2One) for its work on Permanent tsb “Back to Basics”.

The team at Quotefish are incredibly proud to have received this award just five months after our launch. The judge’s comment of “Took a simple idea but executed in a way that can deliver global scalability.” illustrates the universal problems we are working very hard to solve, through providing cost effective, simple solutions for connecting small businesses and their local communities in a digital age. And with the validation of our peers through this award, we will work even harder.

Now in its second year, Samsung has brought a new dynamic to the Digital Media awards. Gary Twohig, general manager, Samsung Electronics IT & Mobile Ireland said “We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the finalists and winners for their outstanding contribution to the sector over the past year. We are delighted to sponsor these awards for the second year running. Its a partnership that works well because Samsung’s range of devices offers cutting-edge technology, style and innovation, making it the perfect platform for users to appreciate the excellence in digital media that the awards celebrate. Its great to see Irish businesses embracing and leading the digital revolution and the calibre of the work reviewed by the judges this year bears strong testament to that.”

Tracey Carney event director of the Samsung DMA’s said: “Over the lifetime of the awards, the digital media industry in Ireland has flourished, growing to become one of the country’s most thriving and innovative sectors. The industry is generating much needed employment with digital media companies based in Ireland hiring 3,000 people (in the period June, 2012-‘13). We’re delighted that The Samsung Digital Media Awards gives those working in this exciting sector the opportunity to showcase their talents and be duly rewarded for the original and creative work they do”.

Determining the winning projects this year was an impressive line-up of judges, including industry experts from Facebook, Google, Dublin City University and Samsung, together with a range of leading Irish companies. With 24 categories split into different sections, the range and the variety of digital businesses involved in the awards has grown exponentially year on year.
